Jed-i strengthens your basics, helps you find the joy of engineering, and prepares you for a career in innovation. It is for bright engineering students who feel trapped by the current system and who want to be at the core of innovative product companies.

The Jed-i Programs

We have created an approach that is technology assisted and pedagogy driven. Unique delivery technologies built around interactive Thodios that support a novel flipped class room method are the hallmarks of the Jed-i Programs. The Jed-i College program is a framework for catalysing young minds so that they transform into real engineers. Our College program is directed at first year students across all branches who want to grow to their potential.

We recognize the dearth of core computer science talent that is shackling product and technology companies in the ICT sector. So we have launched an intense CS program aimed at final year students. The Final Stretch will convert third year CS/ECE students into CS wizards ready for the intense challenges of world class companies or graduate schools.

The Engineering Education Roundtable

Engineering education in India is broken. Major efforts from multiple people are needed. To address this, we organise the Jed-I engineering education roundtables. The first event was conducted in March this year. It acts as a forum for product and technology companies in all sectors and managements of engineering colleges to come together to address the question of engineering excellence. The meeting resulted in the creation and conducting of the JCAT (the Jed-i Competency Assessment Test), to start with in computer science. The report of the first Jed-i Engineering Education Roundtable is now available for download.

The Jed-i Project Challenge

The final year engineering project in recent years has lost the excitement and importance. We conduct a yearly Jed-i Project Challenge event to showcase the best final year projects across India. The Indian Institute of Science is the academic partner for the Jed-i Project Challenge.

About the Founders

The Jed-i Gifted Engineering program is started by Dr Swami Manohar and Dr V Vinay who are former professors of Computer Science at the Indian Institute of Science. It is their way of sharing the Joy of Engineering, Design and Innovation with young engineers who they hope will go on to build the next generation of global companies out of India.

A decade back they embarked on the ambitious Simputer project, started multiple companies, and have enjoyed the rough and tumble of entrepreneurship.

They are both co-winners of the first Dewang Mehta Award for Innovation in IT. Dr. V Vinay is also the recipient of the C. V. Raman Young Scientist Award.
